Jason has wanted to build a chair with old skis for a long time. He modified some adirondack plans and created this beauty. We love it! He is going to make another one and maybe a side table too. Then he will use our old snowboards to make a bench.

What's up everybody! This is Kurt and officially my first time ever blogging. Jordan and I are preparing for a very important Doctors appointment coming up next Wednesday, March 30th. It is a Genetics appointment that has been scheduled since Mado was in the hospital, where we will all be tested and be given a better picture of our different options for the future, in terms of having more kids of our own or whether we will look towards adoption down the road. We would like to invite everyone to join us in a fast this upcoming Sunday, and would appreciate all of your prayers for our family, as this has been something that has been weighing heavily on our minds ever since we found out. Although we are in different states I think we are doing pretty similar things. It is crazy and noisy here but we are having fun(?), I'm not sure that is the right word. :) Disneyland was AWESOME yesterday. Tonight was the nativity story, the Night Before Christmas and matching pajamas. We tried to get all of the kids in one picture, but due to William's recent personality switch we couldn't manage it.

Dear Family and Friends,

It's coming! The Ennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd! We're excited, not so
excited, sad, happy, smiling, crying.......................this is
hard, easy, work, play, frustrating, rewarding I could go on and on.
The more things we've figured out the more we don't understand! But
"IT'S BEEN WONDERFUL".

Thanks to all of you who have called and written and blogged etc. It
probably seems like it has been a short time to those at home but your
notes and calls made our time here go by rapidly, especially when we
got discouraged. It helped to know there were people on our team
cheering us on.

We now understand why the elders and sisters use language about birth
and death when they talk to each other about where they have served,
and who they have served with, in the mission. Your first area is
where you are born and your trainer is called your father or mother.
Any other missionaries trained by the same trainer are your brothers
or sisters. At each zone or mission get together the first person most
missionaries look for is their parent and a lot of hugging ensues. The
area where you finish your mission is where you die. Well we don't
have a father or mother, since no one trains senior proselyting
missionaries but we were born and we will die in the Greenwood ward.
And they have definitely become our family!
With all the joy and pain that comes with being a family.

We have a great friend who has just found out he has liver cancer and
he only has 2 to 4 months left. He is a drummer in several different
kinds of bands and we became his groupies (sad looking groupies I
know) after we arrived here. He is a great guy, last week he took us
to dinner and in the conversation we were talking about his work as a
landscaper,(he'd been standing in a lake all day). He made us laugh
when he said he had somehow always known he was going to have to work
until the day he died and now he know that was going to be true! Great
Attitude.

We're looking forward also to attending the endowment and sealing of a
couple and their two 6 &7 year old daughters on the 4th of Dec. They
weren't active when we got here and we have made great friends with
the little girls (you know ruben). Last night we went over to their
new house (they did live on our street) to play Nephite fish and
Gadianton robber old maid. The two girls are so competitive it is a
fight but fun. We will be having Thanksgiving with this family.

I have wondered out loud (to those to whom I thought it might do the
most good) about the dearth of ward activities. Well we had an awesome
Halloween chili cook-off, carnival and trunk or treat! Then a Potluck
dinner two weeks later and the ward Christmas party which will be on
Dec. 4, two days before we leave. Now the parties are seeming to come
quick and fast and I ask someone how come so many parties all the
sudden. They just looked stricken and gave a funny laugh! Well now I
know why. Last Fri. evening the big potluck turned out to be a going
away party for us. BIG SURPRISE! We now have a beautiful scrapbook
with many pictures from the past year and every family and their
address. What a great gift AND
We have a new quilt with a block made by every family with their names
embroidered on them. We were kind of embarrassed, we love teaching
Gospel Principles and don't really mind giving talks when asked but
being made the center of attention is uncomfortable! WE also gave our
farewell talks last Sunday. It seemed a little early but this week is
stake conference and next week is a farewell for a full-time
missionary from the ward, the sunday before we leave on Mon. the 6th
is fast Sunday so it was last week or not at all. We've seen the ward
change while we've been here but we really couldn't tell you what has
changed, we have changed too, but I can't really figure out what has
changed about us. We do have a lot of new friends that is the biggest
change and we love them all, even though we are sometimes frustrated
with them.

No blog posts have been made in the last four months, at least not
from us so I'll list a few things that have happened and things we
have done.

Our area was white-washed in June and we got a pair of elders and a
pair of sisters. That didn't last long before they sent the sisters to
babysit another companionship where one of the sisters was hurt. Those
sisters never came back and so for the summer we worked with just the
one set of Elders. Three weeks ago at transfers we got a new set of
sisters and one new elder, but kept the district leader that we got in June.
So our district is back up to full speed. We had no baptisms from June until
last week, but with these new missionaries the work is really
progressing. They have another baptism this Sat. and about 8 lined up
for the next week! We're praying for them! ALL of the missionaries we
have worked with here have been great people, some of our new best
friends.

When a zone has 16 baptisms in a month we get a reward and that reward
is a trip to the temple and dinner at the Presidents home. In July our
Zone had 16 baptisms and so in Aug. we all met at the temple. There
were so many of us that we couldn't all fit in the small rooms of this
small temple so some of the elders did baptisms. It was a great day!
We have very little social life in this mission and so events like the
temple trip are highly valued.

We have had one zone activity while we've been here and it was the
week of Halloween. Our zone got together at a stake center and we
carved pumpkins and the elders all played basketball and then indoor
soccer. I always thought that missionaries got to recreate every p-day
but this is the first time we've known them to play at all. There is
very little down time in this mission, it takes almost all of p-day
(they plan and study until 11 am) to do their e-mail, and buy their
groceries. The four of them usually come to our place for a couple of
hours and write letters make cookies and play a game, "Apples to
Apples" until we all go back to work at 5:30 pm.

At 5:30 pm on p-day (monday here) the fun really begins for us. We go
to Single Adult family home evening! Most of my new best friends in
S.C. are between 60 and 85. We have dinner and a lesson every Mon. but
mostly we laugh and laugh. We are going to really miss this group.

The missionaries have spent many hours and driven many miles
delivering media requests. You know from the public service
announcements you see on TV and the mormonads. We know these contacts
can yield much fruit but, since our delivery sheet goes back to 2004
and is 77 pages long it has also yielded many laughs. I've told you
before about the dirt roads, high weeds and missing houses well we are
still delivering to such places, also quite a few dead people, even
one self proclaimed prophet. A fire breathing prophet who was just
about to raise Mary Magdalene from the grave. Elijah J. Brooks by
name, lovely van hand painted with scenes of the apocalypse and
himself breathing fire. Our green missionary from Pinedale WY almost
hurt himself laughing. A couple of weeks ago as we drove up to a huge
field of trailers one of the elders ask Ruben what he thought and he
replied "I'm wondering which of these abandoned trailers we're going
to deliver to". I have a theory that drunk red necks watching TV in
the middle of the night are the people who call in for free books and
DVDs. I can't even compare some of the places we've seen to anywhere
I've been before! Some places we can only tell are inhabited, because
their meters are running. We have now driven about 20,000miles mostly
inside our ward and tomorrow we're taking all four missionaries out to
do it again! One of the goals is to get to the state line with Georgia
and take their picture in two states, half in their own mission and
half in another. Forbidden fruit, indeed!

South Carolina has been beautiful since the end of Sept. Before that,
June July and August not so great. Enough about that. Right now the
trees are awesome and the weather is too.

At the end of Sept. we took 3 days and went to Highpoint N.C. to the
furniture market. I wanted a new dining room table and I had always
wanted to go to highpoint. We had a nice little trip and found just
what I wanted and still had a day left and so we went to Winston
Salem. They have an old town area that is preserved as a living
history museum sort of like Nauvoo. You know I love those kind of
things, so we spent the day there. I had heard the name Moravian
before but I didn't know who they were. Well now I do, they settled
Salem in the 1750's as a refuge from religious persecution in Germany.
I loved that day.

Luckily for me our bishops wife left town for two weeks and got sick
for two weeks and I got to teach early-morning seminary. There are
only two students, one girl who is a senior in HS and the young man
who is leaving on his mission in two weeks, who comes to seminary when
he gets off work at 7 am, after working all night. They are studying
the D&C and it has been fun getting to know them better.

The missionary going to Chicago is named DJ Harrison, his family
joined the church 18 years ago. When we arrived here his dad was in
the bishopric. His brother just signed to play basketball for the Y
next year. He was widely recruited at the schools around here and the
ward and his parents are relieved and excited that he chose the Y.
His name is Demarcus and the Harrisons are a great family. He is supposed
to be a great basketball player. We told his folks to let us know when
they are coming out to watch him play and we would drive up to the game.
It will be fun to know someone on the team.

Sorry this is so long, but it is mostly for me since I am a terrible
journal keeper! I have learned many new things serving a mission. The
most important is the Lord keeps His promises to his servants. Me, a
person who cannot remember the name of a person I have just been
introduced to, knows the name of every active person in the ward and
most of the inactive ones. THIS IS A MIRACLE! I've been blessed with
many opportunities to play the piano (poor listeners). The blessing is
that angels have assisted me every time, I really can't play as well
as I have been able to here. THIS IS A MIRACLE I have come to love an
amazing array of types of people, I'm able to just serve them and the
judgements disappear. THIS IS A MIRACLE. I could go on. Ruben has had
his own miracles he'll have to tell you about them.

Ruben has proof read this and passed off on it. We are under strict
instuctions from the PRESIDENT (a really nice, really tall man) not
to send any negative stuff home, especially on the internet. We go to
the President's home on the 27th to say goodbye and have dinner, that
will be fun.

I'm sure I've missed a lot but it would probably just bore you! We
love you and hope to see you all soon!

this just in from honey & papa....

"in sept 2010 the c.r.i.t. (colorado river indian tribes) evicted bob
johnson and all related with the operation, including maintenance
workers. we are now under c.r.i.t. management. we have been contacted
and made aware of the take over. we have been instructed to send all
ownership, insurance, recent rent statements, documentation relating
to space #50. i have spoken with the c.r.i.t. office and informed them
of our current residency status and told them i will comply in jan
2011 when i have time to collect that information. they are looking
for management personal, office workers, and maintenance workers. need
not be native american! we will see how it works out before investing
big bucks for improvements.

Baby Drew

As most of you know by now, Marci had to have an emergency c-section in the middle of the night on Sunday (well, Monday morning to be precise). I'll let her tell the whole story when she's ready, but in a nutshell he was in distress and they had to take him immediately. By all accounts it was pretty traumatic, and not at all what you hope a birth to be like.

Bridget and I went to visit her yesterday and we got to see the baby before he was transported to the NICU at Utah Valley. He is a cute little thing, but it was heart wrenching to see him like that, and of course our heart went out to Marci who was not able to go with him to UVRMC and who is laid up at the hospital in Heber since she had a c-section.

I was able to take a few pictures with my cell phone of Drew and the crew that was getting ready to transport him. Morgan also texted me a photo of Drew after he was born (before they realized he was having serious problems breathing). I told them I'd post them so the family can feel more in touch with what is going on.

I can't wait to hold him once he's in the clear! It's hard going to the hospital and not being able to touch the new baby - I can only imagine how Marci must feel, but I will say she looked great for everything that had happened!

If you watch this and aren't deeply touched you might be a robot. It's the best video I think I've ever seen the church publish. I remember hearing this story on the news and feeling so deeply sorry for this man. He's amazing.

Fasting for Hallie

I just wrote a long update on my blog if you want to know exactly what is going on (not that I really know myself). She might not have moya moya, but something more rare and not easily treated. It feels like we are starting over from square one. She will start more testing next week on Tuesday and we'll go from there.

Instead of leaving ourselves open to the possibility that I could go into labor on Monday or Tuesday which given my luck lately would be exactly what happened, we are going to be induced tomorrow. At first I was a little devastated, this is NOT how I imagined any of this going down. Could there be a worse week in my life? And then to have a baby during it? I can hardly wait to meet this new baby, but to have all the rest of this weighing on my brain at the same time is just torture. I stay sane in my hope that at some point we will get some GOOD news. If things go well tomorrow, that would be a start in the right direction.

This Sunday is fast Sunday and I am asking anyone who is able, to fast on Hallie's behalf that the doctors can figure out what is going on as well as how to help her. I know there are precious few friends and family out there who aren't pregnant or nursing, but anyone who can, I would REALLY appreciate it! Love you.

Letter from Mom & Ruben

Hi all you interested parties,

Missionary work has continued since our last official post at the end
of APRIL!!!!! I kept thinking it hadn't been that long since I sat
down to write, but sure enough it has been.
We have managed to stay pretty busy. We finished giving after baptism
lessons to all of the people we had on our recent convert list. At
least the ones we could find that haven't gone back to their old
churches or been antied. We have a couple of young families we are
trying to work with right now. They both have agreed to have us come
but they can't quite find the time to fit us in. I'm thinking of just
showing up about 7:30 in the evening with some dessert and trapping
them. The fathers in both families have been baptized in the the last
couple of years but never progressed in the priesthood and we really
NEED priesthood members under seventy-five in the Greenwood ward.

Elder Garnica is still the ward mission leader. I guess the stake
leaders told the new bishop to release him and get a ward member but
now they have backed off since they can't even find enough men to
staff the rest of the callings. I'm pretty happy about that 'cause we
teach the Gospel Principals class and I enjoy doing that a lot.

We are still driving back and forth to Greenville for all Zone get
togethers. It is fun seeing all of the Elders and learning about how
mission work is done. On Tues. we all got called to repentance in no
uncertain terms, actually in a very loud very stern voice by our
president, President McConkie. That was new and different. We are
not being obedient to our 30 min. lunch rule. During some of the
training I get bored because very little of it relates to what we do,
so I take my KINDLE (the most awesome invention of the 21st century).
I guess the President noticed me reading it and later challenged me,
asking "what were you reading in the last meeting?" boy oh boy was I
happy to report 'Temples, Where Heaven meets Earth' by Truman G.
Madsen". I dodged a bullet there, what if I had been reading one of my
extra curricular books! I would have been embarrassed!

You all know that Grandma and Grandpa Miller and Ann came to visit us
in May. We played hooky and went to Charleston for a day and a half.
What an interesting city with lots and lots of history. It was
founded before New Orleans, in 1670. So there is revolutionary war
history and of course the civil war started there. We toured the city
in a horse drawn bus, rode a boat out to tour Ft. Sumter and went and
toured a working plantation (sort of). We also ate in two great
restaurants, one famous for its fish and the other for barbeque.
What we do in the west is called grilling. Bar-b-que and grilling are
completely different cooking methods, I never knew!

Some other words and phrases I have learned, in the grocery store I
was directed to the buggies. Grocery carts to you! And one day I got
on an elevator at the hospital and one of the riders looked at me and
told me to "mash the button" blank stare from me until I finally came
to and realized mash and push mean the same thing. If someone tells
you to 'cut it off,' that means turn off something. And if they say
"Cut off the hose pipe" that means turn off the hose, not get a
hacksaw. And you didn't know I was learning a foreign language, did
you?

One Thursday I got a message from John Emmett. I thought that was a
little strange until I listened and found out he was only sixty miles
away in Augusta, Ga. We went down on Fri. morning to have breakfast
with him, and He treated us. Nice to have nephews with employment!
We are perfectly willing to drive out of our mission to see relatives,
come on down. We stayed in Augusta for a couple of hours to see the
town. This is the location of the Masters Golf tournament, but you
can't catch more than a glimpse of the golf course they play it on.
It is a very snooty place!

Now I am going to let you in on one of those super secret gospel
legends you have never heard of, and yet your very salvation MAY
depend upon knowing this. You have heard of the Olympic Organizing
Committee, the O.O.C., I know. But are you aware that there exists a
Celestial Kingdom Organizing Committee, the C.K.O.C., and it is not in
SLC as you might suspect it would be. Now I have your attention,
don't I? It has been organized right here in Greenwood S.C. Surprise!
There are five or six women here who can tell you exactly on which
level of the Celestial Kingdom you will be assigned, depending on
which transgressions of the culture of the church, you may have
committed. Culture and doctrine seem to be very mixed here and despite
my best efforts to teach the difference I'm not having much success.
Wearing pants to church (very low level), men wearing facial hair or
colored shirts to church (oh, oh) drinking caffinated beverages (my
particular downfall. I know I am going to have a lot of friends and
family on the level I have been assigned to). In fact the mission
president mentioned the "blue shirts of apostasy" just the other day!
In case you're wondering about your level, "its a secret". I only know
mine because one of the secret sisters was so shocked by my
transgression, she blurted out my level when she caught me red handed
filling my cup at the diet coke dispenser when out to dinner with the
single adult family home evening group. Right there in front of her,
I didn't even try to hide it! Really the members here are so great
and so generous with us. Sometimes I just have to laugh at some of
the stuff people believe about Mormons, even the members. No wonder
the non-members have some strange ideas. (I know, I know, the whole
family knows I'm probably not going to make it anywhere near the
Celestial Kingdom anyway! Boy do I have the C.K.O.C. fooled. I tried
to tell them I'm not nearly this nice in my real life, but they won't
believe me, and assigned me to a level I could never have made if they
knew the real me). One nice thing about leaving home, you can be
whoever you want to be, no baggage!

Last week-end I used some of my skills from my former life helping to
put on a wedding reception for an older couple. The groom is from
this ward and the bride used to be. He didn't realize until she moved
away how much he liked her. So now they are married and he moved to
where she lives. They came here the day after their wedding in the
N.C. temple. She had informed one of her friends here that they were
coming to visit and would like to have a reception. My friend, the
member they told is eighty and having health problems, so I told her
we could do it, I would help her and the Relief Society Pres. pitched
in too. It turned out well, about 30 people attended and the bride and
groom seemed to have a good time. (another tip from the field, if
someone plans and puts on a free reception for you it will be
appreciated if you say thank-you and help clean up.) Poor Elder
Garnica, he was the only husband of the three women so he did all the
tables and chairs.(while the groom moved from chair to chair trying to
stay out of Rubens way) He wishes I would quit volunteering! Anyway,
now I am famous for cheesecake, it was totally worth it.

Last week our district got whitewashed! (all of the elders got
transffered out at the same time, FYI) One of them was quite
disobedient, and our district leader couldn't seem to motivate him to
improve so they all left. We really liked them all and will miss
them. We are sort of tickled because the naughty one is now in the
mission office with the President! The elder is a great gospel
teacher but couldn't find the energy to keep the rules about working
and being on time etc. I'll bet that gets fixed!

Now we have two new sets of missionaries. One companionship are
sisters! The ward is very excited about that, they still talk about
the last set of sisters who served here and that was 5 years ago!
Sister Tiechert is from Mackey ID. and Sister Jepson (she's green) is
from San Jose, CA. Yes! Sister Tiechert's great-grandmother is the
artist who did so much of the church art that we use in our buildings.
Elder Garbrick from Roseville CA is our new district leader and his
green companion is Elder Nelson from Pinedale WY. ( Sister Tiechert
and Elder Nelson both grew up on cattle ranches!) Our last bunch of
missionaries were all kind of quiet and not to outgoing. That is not
going to be a problem with this bunch! I expect baptisms will pickup.
(Elder Garnicas ears were tired after driving Elder Garbrick and
Sister Tiechert home in the truck from Greenville) These two
missionaries are already having quite the competition.

As you can tell, we are having our share of challenges and more than
our share of blessings. We love being here, we love serving the Lord
(although we know we are unprofitable) we love each other and we love
and miss all of you!

By the way! The letter writing contest was great! We received lots of
letters and I got lots of birthday cards! BUT, two of my
grandchildren didn't write, honey and papa are sad about that. They
can redeem themselves in July, the 22nd is Papas birthday and it is
awesome to get cards and letters. So ALLIE AND GARRETT
REPENT!!!!!!!!!!

Family and friends everywhere,

We're continuing to find plenty to keep up busy here in South
Carolina. Plenty of inactive and recent members we are trying to
teach and run down, plenty of great missionaries to work with and
plenty of nice active members to associate with.
We just returned from senior single adult home evening which we attend
almost every Monday evening. They are a fun bunch. Sometimes we get
to laughing and stay a couple of hours. Three of the women, two 80
and one 77 are having love life trouble, who knew the challenges of
senior citizens, I never imagined. The seniors fix dinner every week
except the first of the month when they go out. There are several
regular brothers and sisters who attend and they have a short lesson.
They say they need me to play the opening and closing songs and
tonight I was ask to give a lesson on what we learned at our meeting
last Sat. morning with Elder Neil Andersen of the quorum of the
twelve. He and Elder Gonzalez of the presidency of the Seventy met
with us. I don't remember ever meeting a general authority before,
they talked to us about death, sort of a strange subject for 19 and 20
yr olds. It came up because one of the elders little brother had
passed away that morning and Sat. was also the funeral of Elder
Bangerter a former 70 who's grandson is serving in our mission. With
driving to Columbia for the meeting that took up most of the day.
Today Ruben and I did our laundry and then I suggested we drive around
and take pictures of the car washes here in Greenwood. There are two
full service ones but the others just make me laugh. Honestly there
must be 10 bucket and hose car washes, and they are usually busy. Guys
sitting around on folding chairs next to a bucket with a hose near by,
waiting for customers.
Two Sundays ago we got a new bishopric in our ward. This was very
exciting because the former Bishop had served for over 7 years. Every
organization except the R.S. is also being reorganized and Elder
Garnica is officially now the Ward Mission Leader by assignment. The
new bishop is a convert, not originally from this area. He is the CF
O of a hospital near here. But both of his counselors are local men
and one was the former Ward mission leader, so we're hoping when
things calm down to have a little more help from the leadership of the
ward.
Tornado season is gearing up. There are tall towers all over the area
with sirens that go off. We have discovered that the safest place in
our apt. is our master closet. Luckily is is pretty big if we have to
spend much time in there. There was a tornado watch Fri. night in a
small town 15 miles from here and one of our senior sisters lives
there. I ask her tonight if she slept in her bathtub again like
during the last tornado. She said no, but that when the siren went
off it scared her and she jumped out of bed, got tangled in her sheets
and fell on her face. She told her son he doesn't need to worry about
the tornado getting her because she is going to kill herself first.
Last weekend we attended a community concert in the park evening. One
of the men in our ward plays in a local band and we went to support
him. The band was great. Then a couple of nights later Ruben wanted
to go to the local cruise night. It was interesting, there were some
nice cars but the entertainment was the best. An Elvis impersonator
and belly-dancers. It was a first for us. We've been to a lot of car
shows but never with entertainment like this. The impersonator is a
14 yr. old and his parents and grandparents etc. were all there and so
very proud. Sometimes all I can do is shake my head! Really who
wants their son to go around pretending to be the old fat elvis?
Scott continues to be our best in-law, no one else communicates much
with us. All letters cards and pictures are hanging on our walls.
All pictures from junior members of the family and some from little
children in our ward are hanging on our walls. Please send more
decorations!

Thanks to our family who came from far away to be there and to share this special day with Kurt! After the ceremony we went up to Heber and had a yummy lunch, thanks to everyone who helped with that & for all of you who came too! We had a great day, we were thankful we went the day before to do most our pictures around campus because it was raining and cold after graduation! It was a long, but fun & perfect day!!! We are so proud of you Kurt, way to go!!! WE LOVE YOU!!!

Update from our Missionaries

Here is the latest from South Carolina. No one's mission has ever made me laugh harder...

Here's a picture of them doing roadside cleanup (mom won the prize for most trash picked up), and what follows is a letter they sent this morning, asking me to post it to the blog.
Greetings to all!

The end of March is fast approaching and I haven't sent an update for
at least a month. This lag in communication isn't unusual for me.
Just ask my children, especially the former missionaries how many
letters they got from me. I repent, I repent! Now don't make me pay
any consequences for my former transgressions against you. You see, I
am finally understanding the difference between true repentance and
just feeling sorry 'cause I got caught!

Lets see? What to tell you about. Oh, I know. Remember the post
where I mentioned the members in the ward who have 56 dogs in the
house, and how the Lord would have to go there because I wasn't going
to? Well three weeks ago we ask members in the ward if we could go
Home or Visiting teaching with them, then they could introduce us to
people we hadn't been able to meet. One awesome visiting teacher took
us with her to meet a women who we had been led to believe was a DNC
(do not contact) Well we visited four of her sisters, only one who
is active. The second home, the DOGHOUSE! She and her husband met us
in the yard, because the racket from the barking dogs is so loud you
can't be heard unless you are face to face. They invited us in and
mentioned they keep one room where visitors can sit down and dogs
aren't usually allowed. AWESOME PEOPLE, I loved them immediately.
They rescue dogs, nurse them and keep them until they die. They all
live in the house, with dog runs outside for exercise. The dogs all
have names and are known by my friends. Right now they ONLY have 31!
down from a high of 76. As soon as we sat down Elder Garnica ask our
host to show him his yard and they went outside. My friend and I
visited with our hostess for 30 min. or so. She is a convert from
Calif. and when she met her husband insisted he joint he church also.
She is a former Pyshcic and he was a school teacher. Right now they
are unable to attend because they don't have a operable vehicle. We
have visited once since and we took the Elders with us because the
husband fell and broke a rib and needed a blessing. The Elders were
impressed! After the first visit when we got in our truck and took
off to the next appt. Elder Garnica played freeze out and rolled all
the windows down. I was rather offended! (it reminded me of
Margaret's comment when Captain farted when setting next to me on the
couch, "IT SMELLS LIKE YOU" pointing at me.)

We went 25 miles out to an area that was added to the ward recently
(no one seems to know exactly how long ago) when a branch in that area
was closed. VERRRRRRRRRRRY interesting! We took the Elders with us
that day because they had a media referral in the area. A lot of that
area is lake side property and the addresses aren't easy to find,
even with the GPS. (see the picture on the dirt road in the last
post) We visited another active couple that never (sorry seldom)
attend and visited with them for 30 min. or so. They lined up chairs
in a row, single file down the middle of the room so we could visit.
We all sat around a kerosene heater to stay warm, they had run out of
wood for their wood stove. (We told their home teacher and he got them
some more wood, so don't worry) They seemed to be storing a lot of
stuff, maybe food storage? That' s why we had to set in a row. Their
storage filled the whole house. The sister proudly told us it was the
house she was raised in, and her father also, we believe it! They had
a lot of storage in the yard also, and many many cats. The allergy
medicine is coming in handy! They were very nice, so we went back last
week to ask some questions about members of that branch whom we had
found out, that brother is home teaching.

On our first visit to the area we met a group of people living in an
seeming uninhabitable house. As we drove in the driveway I vehemently
stated to all the the elders in the car that there was no way I was
going in! (I know, I know, why don't I ever learn to keep my mouth
shut) One of the elders in the backseat muttered under his breath
"well, at least they don't have to decorate for Halloween!". The
house is actually falling down and partially burnt, BUT there was
smoke coming out of the chimney and chickens running all over the
yard. All the elders were warmly welcomed into the house, the sister
stayed in the truck, watching the beautiful chickens.
One elder (guess who?) came out and insisted I come in. The member
living there has his adult sister and two elderly relatives living
with him. It was raining and everybody was sitting on their beds
watching a black and white TV, keeping warm around their wood stove.
They don't have a running vehicle so the member is unable to attend,
besides the two elderly men are in hospital beds and need care. They
also seemed to be storing a lot of stuff in their house and yard.
Elder Garnica ask about the old Mustang in the yard and our member
said he was saving it to be buried in. On our return we inquired who
the Home teacher was and found it was the brother with the cats that
we met before. When we returned to ask the home teacher about what we
might do assist those living in the collapsing house he said they were
fine and he was aware of them and visiting. At least they are all
into storage!

We were also able on our second visit to locate the home we were
looking for when we took the picture on the dirt road. It was down
another dirt road with many many no trespassing signs. We found a
house and several house trailers and so we couldn't figure out which
door to knock on. We drove back up the road and noticed some
neighbors and Elder Garnica ask them if they knew the member we were
looking for. They did, but mentioned that there seemed to be a lot of
traffic up and down that "remote" dirt road, and that they were pretty
sure it is a brothel. On enquiring about this in ward missionary
meeting last Sunday the members seemed to already be aware! WHY DON'T
THEY PUT THEM ON THE DO NOT CONTACT LIST! When we visited the home
teacher mentioned above, he told us that when he tried to visit
there, the drug pushing, brothel owner was annoyed at the interruption
to his football game. IMAGINE, the nerve of that home teacher, he is
probably the reason the member is offended and not active.

Some times we think we are on a TV show like "Candid Camera" (if you
are old, you remember) or I think there has been one lately called
"punked" that is similar. We have been up and down one rural road
multiple times trying to find an address that doesn't seem to exist.
We made lists of over 100 addresses on the ward list that were
reported as "Do not contact" or we found the member had moved (10
years ago, 7 yrs ago, 2 yrs ago) or we just couldn't find. Ruben took
them to PEC and circulated them around the ward. One of the ward
missionary couples had us to dinner and went thru the list with
us.(they have lived here for ever) We laughed so hard as we went thru
the list and when we came to the afore mentioned address he laughed
even harder, and in his southern accent said " ha, ya aint never gonna
find that address 'cause that house got torn down long time ago." I
wanted to strangle him, but I love him!

We're teaching, right now Ruben just left to find one sister, a recent
convert who has been offended and inactive and she is coming over for
a lesson. Yesterday a man whose wife is bed ridden with alzhiemers
and he can't find a testimony of Joseph Smith. We'll probably teach
him all year since he is home all the time caring for his wife.
Tomorrow a woman who is brilliant but has bi'polar disease and is
struggling with gender confusion. Another is a member, baptized at
eight, but a drug addict for the last 30 years who is coming back.
This work is a heart breaking blessing and we are loving it.

Paige's Princess Party

We had Paige's 3rd birthday party last Saturday. We rescheduled twice to try and accommodate Ben's work schedule and eventually just had to go ahead and have it without him. Since the party was at 11am I prepared everything the night before, after the girls went to bed. The first thing out of Paige's mouth the next morning when she saw the living room and kitchen was, "This looks GREAT! Mom, you planned the PERFECT party for me!" It's so nice that she's appreciative.

It was ALL princess. The girls came dressed as princesses, we had princess music, princess hair glitter, princess coloring, princess bingo, princess gift wrap, princess bracelet making, princess place settings, princess balloons, princess punch, princess cake, princess pinata, and princess goodie bags. You might say that I went princess crazy and as a result I now have princess burnout :) I actually had at least 6 other princess themed ideas for the party that I didn't use (princess: tea party, cake walk, make-up station, story-time with a "real" live princess, inflatable castle, . . .). I had to stop somewhere; after all, the party was for a 3 year old.

Missionary Madness

Hello everybody, even the spoiled lucky ducks that got to go to Aspen!

The work here is going......somewhere.......we are pretty clueless
about exactly what we as a couple are supposed to accomplish but we
are meeting a lot of people, driving a lot and seeing a lot of trees.

We are surprised and amazed by lots of things here, I probably won't
write about them because I might sound like a terrible snob and I'm
not. But we can't help noticing!
I'll just write about the nice things. Except for this one thing. WE
GOT A DOOR SLAMMED IN OUR FACES! First time, just last week.
Actually, we got a good laugh out of it. Of course you know me, I can
laugh about just about anything. We knocked on the door, a woman
answered, we mentioned who we are, she waved her hands around and said
I don't want you around here and slammed the door (we were very glad
she didn't have any dogs, just a confederate flag in her front yard)
The best part was Ruben, He yelled through the door "I have a
question" She yelled back, "what is it" He answered "what are you
going to do with that huge pile of forest refuse that is piled out
here in front of your house?" she yelled back "burn it I quess". At
least she was polite enough to answer his question. We didn't dust
our feet. I'll bet you are amazed by our christianity!

People who join the church here seem to have incredibly thin skins.
When we chat with them we ask about their baptisms and the
missionaries who taught them and they always have warm feelings about
those two things. Then they usually volunteer why them don't come any
more and wow! They need to toughen up, maybe they thought we were all
nicer than we really are. If you have any new members in your wards
don't ask them if they are pregnant, don't suggest that after a year
in Gospel Principles they might like to move to Gospel doctrine, don't
inform a woman planning to go to the temple to do baptisms for the
dead that she would feel more comfortable wearing a dress to the
temple, make sure to show up immediately after a tornado to clean up
the yard of one of your home teaching families even if you don't know
they were affected by the tornado and they live 25 miles from you,
(they shouldn't have to call you dummy, you should know!) This list
does not include "blacks and the priesthood" Or being "antied" by
their families and baptist neighbors. Also how is this for a
scenario, four or five sisters in our gospel principles class today
having a lesson on the blessings of the Temple, including sealings,
when all of them have children and none of them have ever been married
and some are at this time living with significant others! Oh! So many
chances to offend, it is a mine field out here folks and we love it!
You all know I have never been very good at hiding my thoughts and
feelings about most any subject, I'M LEARNING! (aha! you say, maybe
that is why she's there. Maybe you are right)

We had a baptism yesterday of a great young man, an african american
breakdancer! He is so excited about the gospel, you can't help but
love him. After his baptism yesterday he went out and bought a white
shirt, pull over sweater and black slacks so as to be properly dressed
for his conformation today. It was heart warming. Then at Sacrament
meeting none of the speakers showed up so the bishop got up and told
us about his favorite hymn and bore his testimony about why it's his
favorite and then invited the ward members to do the same. I honestly
have never been in a more Spirit filled meeting. At the end the new
member came up and bore his testimony, His elders stood on each side
of him to support him and we ended with Praise to the Man. WOW! NOT A
DRY EYE IN THE PLACE.

Today after the block we had a short meeting with the Bishop to see if
he had any assignments for us. Number one, try to meet with one of
the new lesbian members of the ward (she recently moved here) and see
if she will come in to meet with him, two, get two of those outdoor
things that you put out your cigarettes in before coming into the
church, three, find an answering machine for the very old fashioned
telephone in the bishops office, four, try to find some material to
stick on the bottom of the font to show the baptizer and the baptizee
where to stand and the final request, " Ruben I have permission from
the mission president for you to act as Ward Mission Leader! This
after Rubens joint priesthood lesson in Priesthood meeting today on
ward responsibilities for missionary work!

our sins, Joseph is a Prophet of God as is President Thomas S.
Monson. We love you all and appreciate your prayers and support and
miss you all everyday! In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."

Missionary Fun and Frivolity

Here's Mom and Ruben's latest update!

Hi family members everywhere,

South Carolina is treating us well. In the past two weeks since I
wrote we have visited or found 70 houses in the ward. We've visited
lots of inactive members, left notes on lots of doors and even visited
with a few faithful members.
We've increased our appreciation for young elders and sisters by
hundreds of percentage points and now understand all of the talks and
pleas for member involvement in the work.
That last comment is the truth and a subtle reminder. All of you
faithful children, nieces nephews and in-laws who served full time
missions we salute you.
Most days we spend driving long distances to find inactive members and
they live far apart out here. We are putting seventy or eighty miles a
day on the pickup and having a great time.
The members of the ward continue to be very kind and they seem to
think we have some magical abilities at bringing people back to
church. We sure have them fooled! We eat with members almost every
evening and we love the families with little kids. One little girl
named Lainey Margaret Pennock even sang "you are my sunshine" to us
and it made us feel like margaret kate or paige was singing to us. We
have learned to take toys for the kids with us and candy to pass out,
something about missionaries makes little kids run around and go
totally crazy when you show up at their house.
The last couple of days have been funny, at least you will probably
think so especially if you are aware of my hand-cuffed piano skills
and Elder Garnicas love of animals, especially dogs. Out in the
country people have dogs, one inactive family has 56 who live in the
house with them. The Lord will probably have to go there, no one else
will.
In Sacrament meeting today the ward music chairman who knows that I
can attempt to play the piano ask me to play some prelude music since
the organist hadn't shown up yet and we have two hrs worth of meetings
before the meeting. I sat down to play confident that since I could
pick the songs, I would be able to play them. After a few minutes the
Bishop came over and patted me on the back and said thanks for playing
to day in Sacrament, my wife is supposed to but the babys sick.
Terrifying for me and hard on the ears for the congregation.
Yesterday we went up a muddy dirt driveway to a mobile home on
cinderblocks, there were a couple of dogs, little mangy yappy ones.
Elder Garnica is brave, Sister Garnica is a chicken. He got out and
went to the door, no one answered. Unfortunately he turned his back
on one of the little dogs and CHOMP! some minor holes in his socks and
his ankle! You are laughing now aren't you!
I deserve the laugh, poor Ruben doesn't but he laughed too! good sport!

Today's Letter from our Missionaries

Dear family and friends,

We are on a steep learning curve here! We are getting a little more settled everyday. Today the big event was the delivery of our new mattress. We have decided to just put it on the floor and thus avoid the extra expense of a frame and box spring...very high class. But we now have moved the blowup bed to the guest room! hint hint

We had a baptism in our district last Sat. The elders were very happy! In the two weeks before they baptized a whole family. Our district leader has been here for six months and those five baptisms are the only ones here in the past 6 mos. He goes home this Sunday so it has been satisfying for him. Another fellow committed to be baptized this Sat. but has now backed out. We went with the elders to teach him last night. Personally I think he was wise to, but of course I didn't tell the elders that.

For the first time last night we went out alone contacting part member and inactive members. We even made an appt. to teach a lesson to Javier next tues. evening. His wife is a member and they have a 5 week old baby. He is working here in a pork packing plant and he and elder garnica had fun talking about how the dirty deeds are done, all in spanish. But I caught the drift as I sat there smiling like fool who doesn't speak spanish. This could be a very weird mission if all I have to do is sit and smile.

My admiration for the elders has grown. Yesterday we had a district meeting, us and four elders whom we have so far spent lots of time with. I think they felt a little weird presenting training to us senior missionaries but they have been invaluable to us in helping us figure out what we are doing here. We decided to let the elders teach any lessons to prospective members so that if one does get baptized they can do it. So when we teach Javier on Tues. one of them will go with elder garnica. Papa will have to teach because it needs to be done in Spanish. Only two people can go cause the apt. is to small for more.

We were charged by Pres. McConkie to support and strengthen the ward and it has taken time to figure out how w
e might do that without offending the Bishop, ward missionaries, elders and home teachers. We think we may be getting a clue now but our district leaders leaves Sunday and we're getting a new bishop next week! So we will probably have to adjust. Ha!

We managed to get two easy chairs this week, now all we need is a table to eat at and some chairs. The members are great, we have visited with lots of them. I've never had to write so many thankyou notes. Many of them are willing to go with us to teach and they feed all six of us in the district 5 nights a week.

I had to give in and reveal that I can barely play the piano in RS last Sun. I had hoped to avoid that but I did promise the Lord I would do anything required while I am here! It actually turned out better than singing acapella.

Our air card hasn't arrived yet so we are in a McDonalds again using the internet. Lots of good people watching here!

Hi Family,

We want to wish everybody MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

The last couple of days have been as action packed as the first two. But today is our p-day and we are taking it easy and getting some chores done.

Right now we have purchased two hours of internet at a McDonalds near our house. We notice that with the season being so busy and all there are very few updates on any of the blogs. Remember the missionaries please. We know many of you talk to us frequently but we especially NEED pictures of Christmas festivities and childhood merriment also decorations. In our house we have a tiny chrech scene and two cards. I sound like Kru in the nursery "Whaa,
Whaa!

Monday it took all day to get a place to live,
But is nice and new, one story with nice neighbors so far. One knows wer're Mormons and is still very friendly! Monday night we went to a family named the Satterfields for dinner, they have 5 children under 7 with no twins. FUN, FROLIC AND PANDEMONIUM! We felt right at home. After dinner we went with them to take neighbor gifts and carol.
Tuesday we drove to Columbia to meet the mission president. We visited in his office for an hour and then traveled to his home for lunch with he and his wife and one son who is home for Christmas. Then we hurried back to Greenwood for dinner at another member family the Whites. They have 3 sons, one 2 so Papa told his best stories to 2 yr. old Ethan and we had dinner and visited. We were supposed to go teach a partmember family (our speciality) but they canceled til next week. Our usual bedtime has become 8:30 so we really didn't mind the cancelation. We're tired
Wens. morning we picked up the four elders in our district and went 60 mi. to Greenville for a Zone meeting. Very interesting and informative. 2 Zones were there so we met lots of elders. The President and his wife (who live in Manhattan Beach for 10 years) were there. This was a unschedualed zone conf. and the elders were on edge. They all have GREAT RESPECT!!!!!!!!!! for the Pres. He delivered their presents from home and then got down to business of calling them to account for 3 elders who were sent home last week. Elder Garnica and I will work very hard and try to stay on his good side. A very nice man!
After the conference we took the elders to lunch and went to Costco. On the way I got them all talking about their favorite breakfast cereals and when I went in and they were distracted bought them all big Costco boxes of cereal for their Christmas presents. It was fun! They were surprised. I also purchase a gps and that thing is awesome!

We are on a fast learning curve with the tech. devices now!

"We're here safe and sound. Took the four elders in our district out to dinner tonight. FUN

They showed us were the church is and we have ward missionary meeting at 8 am then correlation and pec whatever that is. Only one ward in a lovely building and Sacrament meeting is at 10 am. Sounds good

We had a call from the mission home with info on apts. so Mon. we will try to find a place to live, then go to Columbia to meet the Pres. (who the elders seem verrrrrrrry respectful of) and see if the couch they have waiting for us is clean enough for me to sit on!

Here's the email they sent this morning! Sounds like things are off to a good start!

"Hi Family immediate and extended,

Tonight we are staying in Dechard Tenn. the birthplace of my paternal grandfather. Our trip has been fairly uneventful, that's alright with us! After leaving L.V. on Monday we went to Kingman AZ were we decided to go ahead and follow interstate 40 most of the way across the U.S. Mostly very boring from AZ to Arkansas. Fields and fields and fields and fields...you get the picture. Yesterday however as we entered Arkansas I remembered I knew two different families that live in that state. I called grandpa miller and he called Beth Paullin and thru the miracle of cell phones I had Jeff and Jan Jacksons' phone number, an offer for a yummy dinner, a place to stay and a great visit. We even found out that Jeffs nephew and his family live in our home ward in Ivins! I also got to talk to Linda Valliere today although we had already passed their place of residence yesterday. FUN!

Today when we got to Memphis Tenn. we took off on a two lane road that brought us to Dechard after only five hours. But the scenery was lots better than on the interstate. We even witnessed a one car accident right in front of us. We stopped and Ruben checked the lady out, someone else stopped who actually knew where we were and offered to call the tow truck and police. So we took off.

After looking around here in the morning we are going on to Greenwood S.C. where we have been assigned to live and labor. I spoke to the mission president today and we are to go Greenwood contact our district leader, find a place to live, settle in, and then perhaps go to Columbia to meet him. So that's what we will do!

Please be reasonably impressed.. We hooked up to wireless internet this evening and all it took was one phone call to trusty Bridget on the cell phone to talk me thru it. Aren't I smart! And that Noelle calls me a techno peasant. HA!

For us this all counts as high adventure! WE LOVE AND MISS ALL OF YOU ALREADY! LISTEN! BLOGS ARE GOING TO BE VERY IMPORTANT TO US THIS YEAR - BLOG MORE! Consider it as service to us missionarys.

Family Fast on Sunday!

We are going back to the childrens hospital on Thursday for Hallie's angiogram. We are supposed to meet with the neurologists soon after the test and they will have a better idea of what is going on.

She has been doing really good! Her eye is slowly making progress, it is looking a lot more normal which is such a relief. She still has to wear an eye patch for 2 hours every day, she doesn't mind it so much as long as she gets a yummy treat or 5:)

I will do my best to post an update by the end of the week, but wanted to let you all know that we will be fasting for her this Sunday. Please join in if you can! Love you.

UPDATE: So, after spending hours on the phone with our insurance company yesterday, I couldn't get a straight answer about whether or not they would pay for it so I had to cancel the procedure for now.... frustrating. We should have full coverage by the 1st of the year, so it looks like we'll have to wait a little longer.

Mission Call

They have been called to serve in the Columbia, South Carolina mission. And they will report to the MTC on December 7.

As of two days ago Hallie's left eye is dilated and unresponsive with a droopy eyelid. We are at the Denver Children's Hospital and after a CT and an MRI they think she may have Moyamoya. It is extremely rare and neurosurgery is almost inevitable to fix the way the blood flows to her brain. They have to run some additional tests on her to see what exactly is going on, but either way it is not good. Please remember her in your prayers...

Dear family and friends,

I received this letter on Tues. when I returned home from Calif. and the quilt show. I had seen Chris and taken him out to lunch the day previous to leaving for the BYU vs UNLV game on Oct. 4th. He told me he was afraid the judge was going to be angry at him for not holding on to his last job for more than a week. He had goals and marks to meet while assigned to the drug court. I have no idea why he is in jail, and no desire to know. Ignorance is bliss as far as I am concerned. As he says in the letter he has not used in over a year and he was subject to weekly random testing before being put back in jail so that must not be the reason. Obviously Chris being in jail is not good news, but he seems to be resigned to it.

Honestly, as Ruben and I get ready to leave on a mission at least I know where Chris is, that he has a place to sleep, food to eat and medical care. After so many years I'm really thankful for the peace that brings me.

"Dear Mom, Oct. 17
I got kicked out of drug court last week. I am now in jail, waiting to see what happens. Hopefully, I'll be put on probation. If I get probation, I should be out of jail within the next three months. There is a slight possibility that I'll be sentenced to prison. I'll just have to wait and see. The 'lawyers' in my block seem to think I'll get out on probation. I'm hoping they're right.

Anyway, I've been clean for one year, as of today. I take pride in that, and feel pretty good about the changes I have made. I have never been clean for this long. I plan on keeping my streak alive, one day at a time.

I have decided to make the best of the time I have to spend in jail. I am going to attend three 12-step meetings per week, take a life skills course, go to Institute as well as church on Sundays. I also plan on beginning to exercise on a daily basis. I plan on writing at least 2 letters a week, cuz I want to know whats going on in the world. Letters from family members would definitely help me pass the time as well as keep my spirits up. PLEASE WRITE TO ME. Please have any willing family members do so as well. Pictures would also be nice.

Today I am of the opinion that everything happens for a reason, and that I am right where I am supposed to be. I didn't make it through drug court which is somewhat disappointing, but I did get clean by participating in drug court, and that is a great accomplishment, in and of itself. I've never done very well handling life, and that's why I'm here. I've decided to learn how to do things differently, rather than dwell on the previous mistakes that I've made.

Well, I don't have much more to say. Please write me and let me know what's going on. Hopefully I'll able to see you before you leave."

Most of the stuff on the family blog makes us all smile, I'm glad for that. Before he died Dr. Suess wrote a book for adults, It's title is "Oh,The Places You'll Go". When I got Chris's letter that was my thought! Oh, the places I've gone. I really had to chuckle. But now that I'm getting older I realize that some of the WORST THINGS that have happened are the BIGGEST BLESSINGS!

By the way, all kinks with our mission application seem to be ironed out and we should get our call very soon! We'll let you know.

The river in October is perfect! 90 degree weather, schools in and we get the river practically all to ourselves. A week of relaxing in the sun is the best. Who's up for next year???

Ann, you and Scott will have to check in with Grandpa because your room is attached to their credit card. The room is under Scott's name though. I had to book the rooms with the same card that would be presented at check-in and since I don't keep a list of family credit cards laying around I had to do what I could. So there you go.

Oh, and the rooms ended up being a little cheaper than $90 a night so there was an added bonus to waiting even longer. You also get 2 for 1 breakfast or lunch buffet with the rate code I used so make sure not to let them rip you off :).

Hotel rooms for Will's blessing/UNLV game

So Steve and I still aren't sure if we are going to Vegas this weekend, but I have been looking into hotel rooms as I seem to be the family's designated travel agent. After looking at various discount travel sites, I think the South Point is our best bet as far as price, location and amenities are concerned.

The rate is $90 a night and I've heard great things about the hotel. Honey and Papa have stayed there - it's where all the cowboys go. They have a bowling alley and movie theater and it's right off I-15 on the very south part of the strip. It's fairly new and you can check it out here: http://www.southpointcasino.com/hotel/index.php. If I'm guessing right I think it's about 15 minutes from Amber & Matt's.

It's about as cheap as anything you could get in Vegas that weekend and while not super close to Amber and Matt's, there aren't very many hotels that are super close to Amber and Matt's.

Will's Blessing

We are going to be blessing William in our ward on October 11. Our ward meets at 9:00. This is the same weekend as the BYU vs UNLV game, so we are hoping that lots of family will be here. We are going to have brunch at my in-laws home immediately following sacrament meeting.

Also, for the game, if you are coming and need childcare, please let me know. I thought I could get a couple babysitters and let the kids run wild here. Or one babysitter here and one at Chelsea's...just to split the craziness up. FYI, the game is at 5:00 on Saturday night.

And if you need a place to stay (Matt is going to throttle me for offering, not really) we have a little floor space for blow up mattresses and two couches (one of which you may have to share with Captain). Sound enticing? Bruce and Carole may also have some extra room. And Chelsea and Eddie too?

So, let me know. It should be a fun weekend.

We're moving (again)

So I think everyone knows we bought a new house, right? I'm sure it's hard to keep track as we move so much, but I think we will FINALLY stay in this one for a long time. We're really excited about it and look forward to moving in in a couple of weeks. Here are a few pictures - it's obviously very modern but hopefully the way we decorate will soften it just a little. I am already working on Steve to open his heart and soul to another family dinner (the backyard will be great for all the kids) - please pray for him.

Wyatt Reunion

I have had complaints (mainly from the gopher in the bottom picture) that no one posts to this blog much (and Noelle doesn't post to any blog)...so here it it. Wyatt family reunion pictures. I wish I had taken more, but most of my energy was spent climbing the hill to the bathroom. Thank goodness for uncle Grant and his 5th wheel. That trek to the bathroom would have been too much for me in the middle of the night.

60th Wedding Anniversary

Tomorrow is Grandma and Grandpa's 60th wedding anniversary. We are having a celebration at Tommy's Barbecue in the Old Heber Village. Dinner is at 5:30 and after dinner we are having dessert at Miller's Outpost.

We all had a great time! Greg's last day on the ship, our last day in Virginia, a truly amazing experience. We're so glad that mom & dad and grandma & grandpa could come and go with us.

This is the kid that ushered in the era of grandma and grandpa as great grandma and great grandpa. That all happened 19 years ago today! I for one, can't believe she's that old...I think Jen should post a scan of her birth certificate to prove it.

field trip to disneyland

I say field trip because a few comments directed at us included words like 'preschool' and 'busy'. I thought for sure we would blend into the crowd at Disneyland:) It was kind of fun, but mostly a lot of work and we might wait a while before trying that again...
